Makers of Melbourne

Welcome to Makers Of Melbourne – the ‘go to’ guide for our technically integrated age.

Makers Of Melbourne has been created to consume and assimilate Melbourne culture. We're male focussed, but not male specific, sorting through the dross to weed out the creative stars, standout events and stylish folk that make this city unique.

MOM aims to embrace all facets of what makes this city a creative hub. Our aim is to inform without condescending – to keep you abreast of what’s going on without regurgitating Press Releases & to seek out this city’s sub cultures to give our readers the inside scoop on what’s REALLY happening with the people who make Melbourne Melbourne.

Craig Honey Grenson

We're having a bit of an Australian renaissance this week with all these quality guys relaxing on holidays in Melbourne.  The re emergence of this uniquely Australian summer look is a refreshing take on the New York-inspired workwear trends we saw during the winter.  We caught up with Craig in Flinders Lane wearing some beautiful hi-shine Grenson boots which could just as easily have come out of a shearing shed in the Victorian Mallee.

Jack Blundstone Boots

Blundstone and RM Williams boots have changed so much in the past 15 years.  In the glory years of these iconic Australian brands they went as well in fashion as they did as bricklayers kit.   These days toe boxes have changed, silhouettes fattened up and the slim and sharp cuts of the 90's have disappeared, but done the right way they still evoke a uniquely Australian sensibility.  Jack's keeping it cool in his Blundstone work boots.

Eugene in Carmina

We nabbed Eugene as he was leaving cult cafe Brother Baba Budan in Little Bourke Street. Combining a pair of classic brown Carminas with a beautifully tailored windowpane suit by Melbourne tailor P. Johnson, Eugene's style is Melbourne Businesswear at its finest.

Khaled Puma x McQueen

Northcote Supper Club owner Khaled had just come from a game of tennis when we spotted him walking back to his Vespa down Royal Lane in the Melbourne CBD. Wearing a pair of Puma x Alexander McQueen street climb lo's, we admired Khaled's striking, yet casual Summer style.

Biedro Car Shoe

Biedro was a little bemused when we chased him up Little Collins street to ask for his photo. Displaying effortless European style, Biedro was wearing a well loved pair of chocolate suede Car Shoes. The original Car Shoe design was patented in 1963 and has since become a mens footwear classic. The Car Shoe company were taken over by the Prada Group in 2001 & happily these beautiful loafers with their signature dimpled rubber soles are still handcrafted in Italy.

Andrew Gaziano & Girling

Andrew is a true shoe aficionado who was happy to impart on us the history of his Gaziano & Girling Brogues. Tony Gaziano & Dean Girling worked for a variety of bespoke makers, designers and Northampton manufacturers before coming together to launch their own company in 2006 -  the first new factory producing handmade British footwear for over 100 years.

James' Redwing

We are loving this high-end American boot culture that seems to be becoming a staple of our Melbourne men.  Maybe it's a more utalitarian version of the Goodyear-welted British boots we loved so much last winter.  The highest-quality USA hand-made versions from American bootmaking legends Wolverine and Redwing are obvious favourites, and deservedly so.  James pulling it all together very nicely this week.
