Dean in Zara Man
We're not sure how we feel about the arrival in Melbourne of retail behemoths Zara, TopShop and soon H&M. On the one hand they feed a flawed retail model of landlords incentivising major clients to drive property values up, which works against our vibrant independant fashion community. On the other hand, they make fashion fast, fun and digestible to even the most conservative palate. It gives us no excuse not to step out looking like we've made and effort. Hopefully today's Zara customer is down at P.Johnson next year ordering his custom blazer because he understands how well great pieces work. Dean's jacket is actually what caught our eye on this sunny Melbourne afternoon, but he's made his funky little Zara patent oxford work pretty well too.

Chris Hunts Grenson
Alongside Melbourne's resurgence of high quality hand made footwear has come one of the strongest packs of new-school tailors in Mebourne's recent memory. Young craftsmen classically trained with a passion for fabrics, an understanding of what a younger customer wants and a head full of contempory ideas. Chris Edwards is one such tailor. One half of Melbourne tailoring duo Oscar Hunt, Chris is your go-to man when it comes to putting your wardrobe together. He doesn't mind keeping it casual either. Nick Punch Toe Oxford
Shoemakers of Melbourne is celebrating it's first birthday today. It's been an amazing year and journey through men's fashion, foibles and footwear. We discussed what post we were going to celebrate our anniversary with, you guys have so much fantastic flair going on, but we decided that the essence of shoemakers and the reason we started this was that our 'typical' Melbourne man and the efforts he's making was actually the hero of the day and the very essence of what shoemakers was all about. Not trying too hard, but not trying too little. So we celebrate today with Nick, our quintessential Melbourne man, taking it easy in the summer heat and making a beautiful pair of calfskin toe-punch oxfords look absolutely effortless.
